1. Overloading Outlets

Other tips include knowing power strips do not change the power the outlet receives but only adds outlets. Also, only one heating product should be in an outlet and using surge protection is

2. Water
Never have an electrical appliance near, especially make contact with water. As water is a good conductor of electricity, having water meet an electrical current is extremely dangerous. Make sure that each electrical device is dry and away from any water. Moreso, make certain that your hands are dry too and move appliances away from areas where water can be present. For example, sinks, showers and plant pots can easily have water contact electrical devices.
3. Combustible Items and Heaters
Items which are combustible, flammable materials like paper, should always be kept far away from heaters and water heaters. If the heat from these appliances are near the combustibles, the chance of them catching on fire increases. As a result, so not place heaters near curtains, wooden surfaces and other combustible items.
4. Wattage
Check to see that the appliances in the home are using the correct wattage. Fixtures, lights, lamps and other appliances should be using 60-watts or less. This is to ensure that they are safe and will not overheat or explode.
5. Tidy and Secure Cords
Cords of appliances should be away from children and pets to prevent them from damaging the cords. Moreover, the cords should not be wrapped tightly around objects to stop them from stretching or overheating. Lastly, do not rest a chord on a hot surface as this will probably damage the cord’s insulation and wires.
6. Air Circulation
To avoid overheating, it is important that electrical equipment should be stored with a good and proper air circulated space. If not, then the chance of overheating and shorting out to then cause an electrical fire will only increase. Additionally, storing flammable objects away from these electronics and appliances is also a safe practice.
7. Follow Instructions
Simply following instructions of the electrical appliances can be a method to decrease electrical risks. For the safety of both the device and you, knowing how to properly use them is important.

8. Replace Damaged Cords
A serious threat to the safety of the home is open and damaged electrical cords. Immediately and safely removing them from the building is important so they do not make contact with anything.
